Mitsubishi has unveiled an updated version of the Outlander PHEV, featuring significant under-the-skin improvements while retaining its popular design. The new model is set to enhance electric range and overall performance, making it a strong contender in the plug-in hybrid SUV market.
Improved Electric Range:
The updated Outlander PHEV boasts an electric range of 86 km under the stricter WLTP cycle, up from 84 km in the previous model. This is achieved through a larger 22.7 kWh battery, replacing the previous 20 kWh unit.
- Enhanced Powertrain: The vehicle maintains its dual electric motors with a total system output of 225 kW, an increase of 40 kW over the outgoing model. The 0-100 km/h time is now 7.9 seconds, and it can operate purely on electric power at speeds up to 135 km/h.
- Fuel Efficiency: The new model shows improved fuel efficiency at 0.8 L/100 km, compared to 1.5 L/100 km for the previous version.
Interior and Technology Enhancements:
- Larger Touchscreen: A new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system replaces the previous 9-inch display, featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Comfort Features: The updated interior includes front seat ventilation, a digital rear-view mirror, and a collaboration with Yamaha for enhanced audio systems.
- Mitsubishi Connect Services: New connectivity features allow remote control of functions like locks and climate control via a mobile app.
Market Position:Mitsubishi's Outlander PHEV has been a top seller in Australia, accounting for approximately 29.4% of all PHEVs sold in the country during the first half of the year. However, competition is intensifying from brands like BYD and MG, which are introducing their own PHEV models.
The 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV aims to maintain its leadership position in the plug-in hybrid market with enhanced range and features that cater to consumer demands for efficiency and technology. As it prepares for its mid-2025 launch in Australia, it will face increasing competition from emerging players in the segment.
With its blend of practicality, improved performance, and advanced technology, the updated Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is poised to attract both existing fans and new buyers looking for a reliable plug-in hybrid SUV.
