This tour comes as BYD and its local importer, **EVDirect**, assess the viability of launching the U8 in the Australian market.

While a local release has not been officially confirmed, the public displays and the development of a **right-hand drive version**, spotted testing in China in late 2024, strongly indicate that BYD is preparing a business case for its entry into Australia.

## **What EVDirect Says About BYD’s Future in Australia**

David Smitherman, CEO of EVDirect, emphasized BYD’s plans to expand its offerings in Australia:

> “A lot of Australians don't really realize BYD sells 500,000 vehicles per month in China – five times the Australian market in one single month – and that means, they've got so much product,” Smitherman said.

Smitherman also noted that BYD’s size and scale give it an unparalleled advantage in bringing innovative and diverse products to markets like Australia.

Alongside Yangwang, BYD’s other sub-brands, **Denza** and **Fangchengbao**, may also find their way Down Under.

## **A Competitive Luxury Market**

If launched, the Yangwang U8 will compete directly with established names such as the **Mercedes G-Class** and the **Land Rover Range Rover**.

With its focus on combining cutting-edge technology, luxury, and rugged capability, the U8 could offer a fresh alternative for Australian buyers seeking high-end SUVs.

## **The Road Ahead for the BYD Yangwang U8**

While the U8’s local release remains unconfirmed, its presence in Australia signals BYD’s intent to test the waters in a competitive luxury market.
