The [Queensland](https://www.carexplore.com.au/tag/queensland/) Government has implemented a new policy offering free disability parking permits to eligible residents. This initiative aims to reduce cost-of-living pressures for individuals and families with disability needs across the state.

### Permit Access and Eligibility

From 1 July 2025, all eligible applicants in Queensland can obtain disability parking permits without incurring a fee. This change is expected to benefit over 3,000 new applicants each month. Which is a saving of $19.75 per permit.

Later in 2025, the policy will expand to allow eligible individuals and families to hold up to three permits at no cost. This adjustment is designed to reduce administrative burdens, especially for families who previously needed to transfer a single permit between multiple vehicles.

### Current Permit Statistics

- Approximately 245,000 active disability parking permits are in circulation across Queensland.
- These permits are held by about 225,000 individuals and 1,500 organisations.

### Policy Implementation

The move delivers on a key election commitment from the Crisafulli Government and forms part of the 2025-26 state budget. The budget outlines broader cost-of-living relief strategies, including efforts to reduce energy prices and rental pressures.

This policy specifically addresses practical challenges faced by families of children with disability, who often need to move permits between cars. By allowing up to three permits per eligible household, the government aims to simplify daily travel and improve accessibility.

### Broader Economic Goals

This initiative is part of the government’s strategy to strengthen the economy while providing targeted relief for Queenslanders. The free permit program complements other reforms focused on easing everyday financial burdens for the state's most vulnerable residents.

The change reinforces the Queensland Government’s commitment to supporting people living with disability and ensuring equitable access to essential services.
