More than 7,000 traffic infringements were issued across New South Wales during a four-day police operation targeting drivers affected by alcohol, drugs and fatigue.

Operation RAID ran from midnight on Thursday 3 September until 4am on Sunday 6 September. NSW Police say the numbers are a sharp reminder that the basics still catch people out: speeding, mobile phones, restraints, drink driving and drug driving.

## What police found

Police conducted more than 162,027 breath tests and 6,420 drug tests during the operation. They detected 212 drink-driving offences, while 774 people returned positive drug-test samples.

The statewide operation resulted in more than 7,113 traffic infringement notices. Of those, 2,251 were speed-related, 344 involved mobile-phone use and 106 related to restraint offences.

## Why the numbers matter

This was not a single camera blitz or one motorway operation. It was a high-visibility statewide campaign focused on impaired and fatigued driving, with police also targeting the everyday behaviours that turn a routine trip into an expensive one.

For drivers, the takeaway is not complicated. Do not assume a short drive is beneath notice, do not gamble on a phone at the lights and do not get behind the wheel if alcohol, drugs or fatigue are in the mix.

## The regional picture

NSW Police reported 1,781 infringements in the Northern Region, 1,418 in the Southern Region and 667 in the Western Region. Regional officers also recorded 69 major crashes in the Northern Region, 23 in the Southern Region and 18 in the Western Region during the operation.

Police say officers will continue enforcement day and night as they work to prevent deaths and serious injuries on NSW roads.
