# Oversized Loads Are Moving Across Victoria. Here’s What Drivers Need to Know

Victorian drivers are being urged to plan ahead as oversized vehicles move across parts of the state, with Transport Victoria warning motorists not to treat a massive load like a roadside attraction.

The advice matters because a convoy can occupy more than one lane, move at a different pace to surrounding traffic and rely on pilot or escort vehicles to keep everyone safely separated.

## What drivers should do

Transport Victoria says motorists approaching from behind should slow down, remain patient and wait for a clearly safe overtaking opportunity. Do not overtake a pilot or escort vehicle and end up trapped between it and the oversized load.

If an escort vehicle signals or gives a direction, follow it. The vehicles are managing a controlled movement, not simply holding up traffic.

## Why stopping is not an option

A large load can understandably turn heads, but pulling over on a freeway to watch one is not the move. Transport Victoria says it is dangerous and illegal, and enforcement action may follow.

Keep moving, keep your distance and focus on the traffic around you. A short delay is far better than turning a routine heavy-vehicle movement into a risky situation.

## Plan ahead before you travel

Before setting off, check VicTraffic for current travel information and allow a little extra time. Pilot vehicles use signs and flashing lights to manage the operation, so leave room and be ready to respond.
