## $25 Million Now Available to Councils

The second expression of interest stage is now underway, with **almost $25 million** in funding available for councils to apply for. This funding is part of the broader **$210 million four-year Safe Local Roads and Streets Program**, which has already seen **more than 200 projects approved**.

Councils are invited to submit projects that will deliver meaningful safety improvements and reduce road trauma. Applications will be assessed based on merit and their ability to deliver targeted, high-impact road upgrades.

## Collaboration with Local Government

Local councils manage **87 per cent of Victoria’s road network**, making them a crucial partner in improving road safety outcomes. These roads are used daily by Victorians travelling to work, school, and throughout their communities.

The program is supported by the **Transport Accident Commission (TAC)** and the **Department of Transport and Planning**, who will work alongside councils to finalise approved upgrades in the coming months.

## Strengthening Local Capacity

The program not only funds road improvements but also aims to strengthen council capacity to:

- Plan road safety initiatives
- Access state funding
- Deliver safety-focused road infrastructure

This will ensure councils are better equipped to maintain safer road networks into the future.

## Backed by Record Road Maintenance Investment

This program is being delivered alongside the **2025/26 $976 million road maintenance blitz**—the largest single-year investment in road maintenance in Victoria’s history. Notably, **70 per cent of this funding is going to regional roads**, ensuring that rural and regional communities benefit from safer and smoother journeys.

The Allan Labor Government continues to prioritise practical, evidence-based safety upgrades that will help reduce crashes and save lives on local roads across the state.
