Western Australia's popular Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) rebate scheme is winding down, with applications set to close at midnight on 10 May 2025.

What Is the ZEV Rebate Scheme?
Launched as part of the 2022-23 State Budget, the ZEV rebate scheme offers $3,500 to eligible applicants who purchase a zero emissions vehicle (ZEV). The initiative was designed to boost the uptake of electric vehicles across the state, contributing to WA's broader clean energy goals.
How Many Have Benefited?
As of 31 March 2025, a total of 11,868 rebates had been paid out, amounting to $41.5 million in support for electric vehicle buyers. To meet growing demand, the Cook Government increased the scheme's funding by $14.7 million in 2024-25, lifting the total investment to $51.2 million.
EV Growth in WA
WA's transition to cleaner transport has accelerated rapidly. According to licensing data from the Department of Transport, the number of electric vehicles on WA roads grew by over 692% between 31 December 2021 and 31 December 2024, with more than 25,000 ZEVs now registered in the state.

Why Is the Scheme Ending?
While the rebate played a key role in kickstarting the EV market in WA, the government says the landscape has changed. More models are now available, and consumer interest continues to grow. The scheme was part of the broader Clean Energy Car Fund, and its closure marks a transition toward market-led EV adoption.
Final Call for Applications
Drivers still planning to switch to a zero-emissions vehicle have until midnight on 10 May 2025 to submit their rebate application through the Department of Transport website.
