The $76 million Mandalong Road upgrade has taken a key step forward, with Transport for NSW releasing the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) and progressing the project into the detailed design phase.

Environmental Review Completed

The REF outlines proposed construction methods and strategies to manage and minimise environmental impacts during the works. This milestone follows strong community support, with 80% backing the preferred design during last year’s consultation period.

Key Features of the Upgrade

The project includes several major improvements:

  • Replacing the current roundabout at Wyee Road and Freemans Drive with traffic signals
  • A new shared path between Ourimbah Street and Gimberts Road
  • Two new bus stops on Dora Street

These upgrades are designed to ease congestion, enhance safety, and improve public transport and pedestrian connectivity.

Investment and Growth

Funding is a joint effort, with $56 million from the Australian Government and $20 million from the NSW Government. Mandalong Road has seen increased pressure due to recent retail, commercial, and industrial growth in Morisset and the southern Lake Macquarie region.

Next Steps

With the REF complete, the project enters detailed design. Construction timelines will be clarified once design and planning are finalised.
