What Offences Attract Double Demerits?
Double demerit points apply to the following offences:
- Speeding

- Riding a motorcycle without a helmet

- These cameras are active across NSW and the ACT.
- Penalty during double demerit period:
- $410 fine and 10 demerit points
- $544 fine and 10 demerit points if in a school zone
School Zones
- Additional penalties may apply for offences committed in operating school zones.
- Certain driving and parking offences attract an additional demerit point in these areas.
Duration of Demerit Points
- Demerit points remain active for three years from the date of the offence.
- All drivers begin with zero points; points accumulate with each offence.

- Fines remain unchanged during double demerit periods.
- Only demerit points are doubled.
