Victoria is trialling new mobile road-safety camera technology in 21 locations, but drivers will not receive fines from the trial equipment.
The Department of Justice and Community Safety says the July to September 2026 trial is testing the effectiveness and accuracy of new technology for Victoria’s existing mobile speed-camera network.

What the trial can detect
The equipment may be mounted on trailers, moveable bases, poles or gantries. It uses technology similar to systems already operating in Victoria’s mobile digital road-safety camera network, including camera systems for speed, distracted driving and seatbelt offences.
The important detail for drivers
The trial cameras cannot issue fines. The test is about checking how the technology performs, not creating a new penalty process. Victoria Police can still patrol and enforce road rules around the trial locations as part of normal duties.
Where it is happening
The trial covers Donvale, Geelong, Glenroy, Greenvale, Hughesdale, Huntingdale, Keilor Downs, Koo Wee Rup, Lang Lang, Lara, Lethbridge, Moorabool, Myrniong, Notting Hill, Ormond, Sunshine, Truganina, Wallace, Wallan, Wantirna and Winchelsea.
