A 39-year-old man has been arrested following a dramatic police chase through Perth's suburbs, after he allegedly brandished a firearm at officers and sped off at up to 200km/h.

According to WA Police, the incident began around 7:25am on Monday, 2 June 2025, when officers attempted to stop a Hyundai Tucson station wagon bearing false plates on Gibson Road in Beechboro, in Perth's northeast.

The driver allegedly refused to stop, pulled out a firearm, and accelerated away from police at dangerously high speeds. WA Police Air Wing monitored the vehicle as it continued to flee.

The pursuit came to an end in Banjup, approximately 30 kilometres away, when the vehicle crashed at a T-junction. The man was arrested at the scene.

Police later recovered the firearm in Beechboro.

The East Perth man is facing a string of serious charges and is due to appear before the Midland Magistrates Court today.

Charges include:

  • Reckless driving to escape pursuit by police
  • Failing to comply with a direction to stop
  • Having no authority to drive
  • Driving with a forged, replica, or false number plate
  • Use of a prohibited drug
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia with a prohibited drug or plant
  • Unlicensed possession of a firearm or ammunition
  • Being armed in a way that may cause fear
  • Possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property

The firearm allegedly used to threaten police was recovered separately in Beechboro.

"Midland Detectives have charged a 39-year-old man with numerous offences after an evade police incident that occurred on Monday 2 June 2025."

Investigations are ongoing. WA Police continue to urge anyone with information relevant to the incident to come forward.
