The Minns Labor Government is delivering a major infrastructure boost for regional New South Wales, committing $37.5 million to a comprehensive spray sealing program aimed at improving more than 470 kilometres of state-managed roads. The 10-month initiative, led by Transport for NSW, is part of the government’s broader commitment to safer, more reliable regional road networks.

What the Program Involves
Using advanced spray sealing technology, the program applies a protective layer of hot bitumen and aggregate to the road surface. This method helps:
- Waterproof roads to guard against heavy rain damage
- Improve grip in all weather conditions
- Extend the road surface lifespan by up to 10 years
The program began in August 2025 and will run until June 2026, delivering smoother and safer journeys for thousands of motorists who rely on these critical corridors daily.
Where the Work Is Happening
The spray sealing program targets over 20 state road corridors from Broken Hill to Byron Bay and as far south as Eden. The works have been strategically scheduled and funded across three key regions:
Western NSW – $25 Million
Covering over 300 kilometres of key roads, works in this region will run from September 2025 to June 2026. Targeted corridors include:
- Gwydir Highway
- Kamilaroi Highway
- Carnarvon Highway
- Newell Highway
- Oxley Highway
- Castlereagh Highway
- Mitchell Highway
- Golden Highway
- Mendooran Road
- Barrier Highway
- Silver City Highway
Southern NSW – $8.38 Million
Nearly 100 kilometres of roads will be improved between October 2025 and April 2026, including:
- Snowy Mountains Highway
- Princes Highway
- Moss Vale Road
- Kosciuszko Road
- Hume Highway
- Illawarra Highway
- Federal Highway
- Appin Road
- Monaro Highway
Northern NSW – $4.5 Million
Works in the northern region will focus on more than 70 kilometres of road from October 2025 to March 2026, targeting:
- New England Highway
- Gwydir Highway
- Bruxner Highway
Supporting Broader Road Repairs
This spray sealing initiative complements the Government’s $155 million pothole and road repair blitz across regional state roads, further reinforcing its commitment to infrastructure improvements in areas that need them most.
Together, these programs aim to enhance safety, extend asset life, and ensure that regional communities receive their fair share of road investment.
