A Queensland police officer is under investigation after throwing a speed radar gun at a moving car on Nicklin Way, located on the Sunshine Coast. The incident took place around 3pm, during active speed enforcement in a 40km/h school zone.

According to reports, the officer was conducting speed tests when a P-plate driver approached but failed to stop when directed. The vehicle swerved around the officer, prompting the officer to throw the radar device at the car’s window as it passed.
The driver continued along the road without stopping. Queensland Police later stated that the officer’s actions were allegedly taken in self-defence.
The motorist involved reportedly has multiple traffic infringements, though no further details have been released.
An official investigation is underway to determine whether any police procedures were breached during the interaction.

This event highlights heightened enforcement in school zones across the state, where traffic offences are subject to increased penalties. In Queensland, speeding in a school zone can result in double demerit points and fines starting at $174 for travelling up to 10km/h over the limit.
