When was the last time a bill in your letterbox got smaller? From today, New South Wales drivers will start receiving their vehicle registration renewal notices with $100 taken off, part of the Minns Labor Government's plan to ease cost of living pressure on families. Motorcyclists get $80 off.
The discount is a one-off, and it lands automatically. There are no forms to fill in and nothing to claim back.
Who gets the discount and when
The $100 applies to privately owned light vehicles, while motorbike riders get $80. Around 4.4 million vehicle owners across the state are set to benefit.
The saving is applied for you in three situations: when your vehicle is due for registration, when a new vehicle is registered in NSW, or when a previously unregistered vehicle is put back on the road.

Renewal notices go out about six weeks before payment is due. If your rego falls due in September, your reminder should turn up in the coming weeks with the $100 already deducted.
What the $100 means for your renewal
For most drivers, $100 is roughly a tank of fuel back in your pocket. Because it is applied automatically, the main job is simply to check your renewal notice when it arrives and pay as normal, whether you do it online, over the phone, or at a Service NSW centre.
Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison said motorists would "start receiving rego notices with $100 deducted for privately owned light vehicles, and an $80 discount for motorcyclists."
It is one of several transport measures aimed at household budgets. The weekly toll cap has been lowered to $50 for 12 months, toll admin fees have been scrapped, and Opal fares are frozen for the next 12 months.
How to check if you're eligible
If you own a registered car or motorbike in NSW, the discount should apply when your renewal comes around. Full eligibility details are on the Service NSW registration discount page. It is a one-off saving, so don't expect it on every renewal from here on.
