Volkswagen’s Revamped Golf Lineup Set to Rev Up Australian Roads in 2025

Get ready to feel the thrill of a fresh drive! Volkswagen has officially confirmed that the revamped versions of the iconic Golf – including the GTI and R hot hatches – will be speeding onto Australian shores during the second quarter of 2025.

Unveiled in the company’s 12-month product plan for Australia, the entire Mk8.5 Golf lineup is all set to make a grand entrance between April and June of next year. It’s time to mark your calendars!

Revving Up the Engine

The Golf R Black Edition will also be rolling out in Australia, as announced by Daniel DeGasperi, the product and PR communications manager for Volkswagen Group Australia.

The Mk8.5 Golf R retains the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that has been its power source for nearly 15 years, but with a little twist. It now generates an impressive 245kW of power and 420Nm of torque, an increase of 10kW and 20Nm over the outgoing model.

Speed, Performance, and More

Staying true to its legacy, the Mk8.5 Golf R boasts of a 0-100km/h acceleration in 4.6 seconds, shaving two-tenths off the sprint time of its predecessor. With an impressive top speed of 270km/h in cars equipped with the optional Performance Pack, the Golf R is all set to rule the roads.

As for the Golf R Black Edition, it’s a darker, edgier take on Volkswagen’s classic, featuring darkened badges and headlights, black brake calipers, black 19-inch Estoril wheels and black exhaust tips. It’s not just about the looks; the Black Edition also comes with the Performance package as standard.

A Look Inside

Inside, the updated Golf R features a 10.25-inch digital instrument and a 12.9-inch infotainment system running the brand’s latest software. The Golf R Black Edition truly takes interior design to another level with illuminated volume and climate control sliders, addressing customer feedback about the original Mk8.

Expectations are High

There’s no doubt that the new Golf lineup will be a hit among Australian buyers. As Mr DeGasperi puts it, “Buyers love these cars. Just last month, we sold 90 Golf GTIs in a month, and 90 Golf Rs. We expect that to continue with the Mk8.5 range in Q2.”
