Kings Highway Upgrade Nears Completion

South-east of Braidwood, the final stage of the $20 million Kings Highway upgrade program has commenced this week. The Kings Highway serves as a crucial link between Batemans Bay and the NSW/ACT border.

The latest works will see flexible safety barriers installed along three kilometres of both sides of the highway. These barriers are designed to reduce the risk of serious accidents by preventing vehicles from leaving the roadway in critical areas.

The Kings Highway upgrade is scheduled to be fully completed by the end of July 2025, weather permitting.

Monaro Highway Work Progresses

Preparation work for the final stage of the $20 million Monaro Highway upgrade will begin north of Bombala on 23 June 2025, pending weather conditions. The upgrade targets improved safety across key sections between Burnima Road and 600 metres north of Rifle Range Road.

The scope of work includes:

  • Widened lanes for improved vehicle maneuverability
  • Widened centre line to create greater separation between opposing traffic flows
  • Audio tactile line marking (rumble strips) to alert drivers veering from their lane
  • Flexible roadside safety barriers to reduce the severity of crashes
  • Installation and upgrades to new and existing drainage culverts

The Monaro Highway upgrade is expected to be completed by 30 June 2026, weather permitting.

NSW Huge Upgrade For Drivers
The $190M Horsley Drive upgrade is moving ahead, with detailed design underway to ease congestion, improve safety, and support future growth in Western Sydney.

Temporary Traffic Changes During Construction

Single lane closures will be implemented at both project locations, with traffic controlled under a stop/slow arrangement. Speed limits will be reduced to 40 km/h to ensure the safety of both workers and motorists.

Motorists are advised to drive carefully through the work zones, follow posted signage, and allow for an additional five minutes of travel time.

Economic and Regional Benefits

Minister for Roads and Regional Transport Jenny Aitchison stated:

"The upgrades will help support regional economic growth by promoting tourism and freight traffic on the highway, and by providing better connectivity between communities."
