One in three eligible Queenslanders now carries a Digital Licence, with downloads of the state government's app passing 1.4 million, more than double the 16 per cent uptake recorded in October 2024.

What's on the app now

The Digital Licence app launched in November 2023, starting with driver licences. It has since grown to 19 digital credentials, including recreational marine licences, photo identification cards, and industry accreditations for taxi and rideshare drivers.

Since September, more than 105,000 tradies have also been able to add Queensland Building and Construction Commission licences to the app, covering categories from builders to pool safety inspectors.

The Queensland Government has allocated $18.4 million over the next two years to keep expanding the app and its companion Customer Service Portal.

What it means for drivers

Beyond carrying a digital driver licence, the app links to rego status checks and renewals, fine payments, and organ and tissue donor registration through DonateLife.

For regional and remote users, the app doesn't need a mobile network to work. Minister for Customer Services and Open Data Steve Minnikin said this was a deliberate design choice.

"For regional and remote customers, the app does not rely on a mobile network and allows Queenslanders to prove who they are or show their digital licence without the need for mobile coverage," Minister Minnikin said.

He added the app was designed to give users more oversight of their own credentials. "The app is giving Queenslanders greater control over their personal information and with features like real-time updates and secure access, it ensures people always have the most up-to-date credentials at their fingertips," he said.

Queensland was among the first states to roll out a mobile driver licence, launching in late 2023 built to international mobile ID standards. Downloads passed half a million within the app's first seven months, a faster adoption curve than comparable digital ID rollouts overseas.
