Electric Power for the Next Generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The much-anticipated next generation of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class is set to make its debut in 2026. The highlight of this launch is the introduction of an electric power option for this premium and popular sedan model.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class set for electric power from 2026 - report

What’s On The Horizon?

Initial speculations suggested that the new vehicle would be called the EQC Sedan. However, according to reports from the UK publication Auto Express, the car will bear the C-Class brand and will be sold alongside its petrol and diesel counterparts.

The electric version of the C-Class is reportedly going to be powered by a modified Mercedes-Benz EVA2 platform, similar to the one that currently underpins the EQE. Earlier plans to use the MB.EA platform were scrapped earlier this year, making room for the EVA2 platform usage.

Electric vs. ICE Vehicles

Keeping in mind that Mercedes-Benz’s platforms under development are intended exclusively for battery-powered electric vehicles, the internal combustion engine (ICE) C-Class will continue its production line without any changes. The arrival of the electric variant will add diversity to the C-Class range rather than displace any current models.

Performance Expectations

The new EQC is expected to come with a lithium-ion battery pack and a standard single rear-mounted motor. Moreover, an option to add a front motor will also be available for those desiring an all-wheel-drive setup.

As the rumors swirl around, it’s predicted that the new model will be capable of over 600km on a single charge. Additionally, it would potentially offer a charging speed of 200kW with a compatible DC fast charger, in line with the current vehicles on the EVA2 platform.

Excitement is also building around a potential performance AMG version of the electric C-Class. This high-performance variant could boast 21-inch wheels, a wider track, larger air intakes, beefier brakes, and a lowered stiff suspension. The power output is expected to exceed 500kW, delivered through an all-wheel-drive system.

With these striking features and advanced technology, the next generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class, is shaping up to be a game-changer in the world of electric vehicles.

Wrapping Up

With a move towards electric power, Mercedes-Benz is undoubtedly keeping up with the ongoing trend towards more sustainable and eco-friendly vehicles. The new C-Class model, with its innovative electric technology, not only shows the company’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint but also sets a new benchmark for other automobile manufacturers. As 2026 draws closer, we eagerly wait for what promises to be an exciting leap forward in sustainable luxury motoring.
