MG HS 2025: The Next-Generation SUV Spotted in Australia
Get ready, Australia! MG is bringing its next-generation Toyota RAV4 rival, the MG HS, to our shores, and it’s been spotted ahead of its official launch later this month.
The new MG HS will debut with petrol power, followed by plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models arriving in the first half of 2025. It’s set to be available in three trim levels, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
Trim Levels and Features
The MG HS seen in Ramsgate appears to be a base model, evident from its cloth upholstery. However, don’t let that fool you—it still boasts dual 12.3-inch screens inside.
Power and Performance
Petrol-powered HS models will feature a 125kW/275Nm turbocharged 1.5-litre engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Additionally, a recent government filing suggests the HS will also offer a 170kW turbo 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine mated to a nine-speed automatic.
For the flagship model, which may continue with the Essence badge, expect premium features like a surround-view camera, panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, six-way power driver’s seat, eight-speaker sound system, and a wireless phone charger.
Design and Space
Compared to its predecessor, the new HS has a longer rear end and a bolder exterior design. The boot space has increased by 44L, bringing it to a total of 507L. This means more room for your groceries, sports equipment, or weekend getaway gear!
Safety and Driver Assistance
Like the outgoing model, the new HS is packed with standard active safety technologies. These include autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. Additional driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control, intelligent speed limit assist, and traffic jam assist make this SUV a safe and smart choice.
Pricing and Popularity
The price for the new-generation model remains under wraps. The outgoing HS model starts at $29,990 drive-away. Despite the competitive mid-sized SUV segment, the HS has been the least popular in MG’s current lineup in Australia, with 1618 units sold in the first half of 2024—a 65.3% drop from the same period last year.
