The $100 rego discount is turning up on renewal notices across the state, but not every driver sees it this year. If your registration fell due in July or August, you're waiting until 2027.

The discount started on 1 September 2026 and applies to any renewal with an effective date up to 31 August 2027. Cars get $100 and motorcycles get $80. If you register for six months instead of twelve, it's halved to $50 and $40.

Why July and August miss out

The discount is tied to your renewal's effective date, not the date you pay it. Anything falling between 1 September 2026 and 31 August 2027 qualifies. Registrations that came due in July or August 2026 sit just outside the window, so those drivers pick the money up on their next renewal in 2027 instead of this one.

You don't have to apply

There's no form and nothing to claim. The discount is applied automatically when your renewal notice is issued, when you register a new vehicle in NSW, or when you put a previously unregistered vehicle back on the road.

Who doesn't get it at all

The discount is for private use only, so a vehicle registered to a business is out even if you're the one driving it every day. Trailers, caravans, plant and heavy vehicles miss out, and so do conditionally registered vehicles such as historic and farm fire-fighting registrations. If you already receive another registration concession, this doesn't stack on top of it.

Check the notice before you pay

It's automatic, which is convenient right up until it isn't. The discount is worth eyeballing on the notice itself rather than assuming, particularly if you've recently switched a vehicle between business and private use, or moved a registration between states. It's $100 either way, and it's easier to query before you've paid than after.
